Well graduation is only a week away. Happy to be graduating but sad to be leaving my friends here. However I'm gonna stay busy hopefully getting a part time job in CT then eventually move back to NY to work full time. This post also serves as my work update. Updated http://www.transitmusic.org , and http://www.jamiecollinsphotography.com. Also i decided to incorporate forum for the SigEp site. For this organization, i figure this would be better communicating then using yahoo groups to communicate. For future designers or current designers it would be wise to learn or know the basics of Cpanel. Then you can easily create forums with a few clicks and not have to hire a programmer. Using yahoo groups is a less professional way to communicate in my eyes and also who needs to look at numerous banners and popups.

All is well freelancing. I have updated http://www.transitmusic.org , http://www.jamiecollinsphotography.com , and http://www.sigepqu.org . Few issues regarding wether or not to make the site design in flash. I came to the conclusion that i didnt want a long load time and the fact that everything is copyrighted with flash. So its hard to grab information text ,pics from a flash website. SO i figured considering i will hand this project down to another brother in the next month, i will use html and have a nice clean and basic site layout. The navbar on the left side was a pain though. I had seen this layout on another site somewhere but only the first button was functional . SO i had to really spend some time with that understanding how they got the white space between each of the links. But its done and looks like i wanted to. One funny not on Macromedia Dreamweaver. I get this popup saying im low on system memory , so i should close any apps and save my work right. I have 4gb of ecc ram . How much of that was used, not even 1gb. Oh i love buggy apps. Till next time. And i have that screenshot. :) http://www.tonyconsalvo.com/ss1.jpg

Less is More! Couldnt agree anymore with Luke. Few pictures, white background, and reverse type that portrays a clean simplistic feel, where in most cases is easily navigable. However you need personality. You need to appeal to your audience, engage them somehow. If using a lot of text and few pictures, create placeholders for them as described on page 176. Think about your logo or identity when creating a site. This usually will effect the color scheme of your site. Try and incorporate as much as you know about the company as you can in your design. If your logo is a monster, maybe have a few illustrations of them on your page. This is where you can be creative to engage your visitors and potential clients. A bad color scheme will not attract anyone so be careful. Test out several schemes. Neutral aand low values are pleasing to the eye. However bright and vibrant colors might work for active people or firms dealing with sports.

The order that i closely work with when creating a website goes as follows; You need to determine who your audience is first. So, either have a meeting with your client or have something sent to you so you have an understanding. Next research past designs, other websites, anything having to do with your topic. Then you can start with the mockups. This is for different layouts that will make up the overall look. Within those comps incorporate a navigation system. Determine best and cleanest looking and most efficient location for them. After all of that is done, mess around with some color schemes. I tend to stay neutral for my projects, but if a client wants a different color because of their logo or identity just check that color with different browsers. Now your ready to turn on your pc and go to work.

Creating several designs in the past few months i have to agree with the reading. Of course a color scheme is crucial to be eye pleasing yet catching but easier enough to be able to see links and not have to strain ones eyes to get information. I would rather have a clean design opposed to a clutter filled home page. Yes its easy to set up a grid but there are other ways to have a clean looking site without the basic 3 table layout.

Well this is my third time creating a post because blog servers are sub par. But as i stated earlier flash versus straight html has it pros and cons. My next site, i will design outside of flash. I feel it will be easier for the next person after me to update it. Also copying text is not feasable considering everything is copyrighted. Links will follow soon

Out weighing pros and cons of designing in flash or just plain html, i decided to work outside of flash for my latest website design. Mainly for the fact that for future maintenance will be easier for whoever will be updating it considering i will not be. Also load time is always a factor so flash isnt the best optimized app out there. Also without some tricky way of importing text from external text files, there is no way to copy text when viewed on a screen from a swf file because of copyrighting, so with coding html there are no restricitions whatsoever.

http://www.teamone-usa.com/ is a very interesting website. As written in our book, this site might have too little information on it. Could be still worked on as we speak but there are only 3 options on the main navbar. Yes it is very clean and easy to see, but name of company is misleading with samples of their work. Could be just a play on words, saying their architects, showing a 3d picture of a building, and all the company does is design commercials, or design cars. Im not really sure to say the least, you decide. Are they an advertising firm? Car concept designer? With all their positions available i have no clue. But as far as the site is concerned, very nice and high-res photos. There aint no "breadcrumb" navbar linking or indicators where someone is , but then again there are only 3 places to go. Not to hard to remember.
